Roux. Pillows. June 16th , 2017.
Like the story of the mouse asking for a cookie, and then proceeding to hop from one project to another only to come back around to the cookie, I immediately decided I needed new home throw pillows. I resorted to the web to browse options and was simply floored by the endless choices - bright colors, shiny metallics, black and white patterned throw pillows everywhere. There were pillows in stripes, pastels, patterned with flowers or nature prints, circle pillows, bolster pillows, and pillows covered in dots. Yellow pillows, gray pillows, purple pillows and even pillows covered in what looked like shag carpeting.
Another great way to jazz up your room is by adding a Throw pillow. A Throw pillow is a small pillow which is designed to be used for decoration and is usually in smaller square form. They can also come in rectangular, oblong and even triangular shape. Throw pillow can add not only to accent the bed but can be a conversation piece for your couches and large chairs. Depending on their size, a Throw pillow can also be used as floor pillows providing potential seating option for large groups and adding a note of decoration when not in use.
Before you buy your fabric, you`ll need to determine how much you need. Add 1 - 1/2 inches to the pillow size you decided on so that you`ll have room for sewing the pieces together. For example, if you are making an 18 inch by 18 inch pillow, you should buy enough fabric to have two squares that are at least 19 inches by 19 inches. Explain your project and measurements to the salesperson at the fabric store and they will be able to cut you the amount of fabric you need.
Visit a local fabric store to purchase the supplies you`ll need to make your decorative pillows. If there isn`t one nearby, you can also find lots of fabric and supplies online. Or, you may have an existing item of clothing or other fabric in your home that you want to recycle for this project.
If your choice turns out to be a cotton filled pillow you should replace it when needed rather than washing it. Because over time cotton pillows will become very dense because of the body weight that is constantly put on them. And remember cotton pillows are very affordable so replacing them when needed is worth the cost to avoid health problems that can be directly related to breathing in mold.
